Hundreds of Seagulls. One Rooftop. Endless Headaches.
MG Group, a key fruit and vegetable distributor had been battling a persistent seagull problem for years at their Wellington based distribution and packaging centre.
Hundreds of gulls had made their home on the roof of the building, creating constant mess and ongoing damage.
A never ending distraction no business wants to face.
A Costly Cycle of Mess, Flooding and Frustration
The droppings and nesting materials regularly blocked gutters, leading to repeated flooding events inside the facility.
Each time the gutters overflowed, the clean-up was costly and disruptive, and the long-term structural integrity of the roof was becoming a serious concern.
Despite multiple roof cleans each year, the problem kept returning, forming an expensive and frustrating cycle.

A Smarter, Humane Approach to Bird Control
MG Group needed a permanent, humane solution that would deter the gulls and protect both their building and their produce.
As their existing fumigation service provider, Paul Blades from Kwikill Environmental Services was brought in to assess the situation.
Understanding the scale of the issue and the behaviours of the birds, Paul recommended the Birdzout Ultimate Laser – an automated bird control laser designed to make rooftops an unattractive and uncomfortable roosting environment for birds, without causing them harm. Birdzout worked alongside Paul to identify the ideal installation point for maximum effectiveness.
The roof was cleaned one final time, and the Birdzout Ultimate Laser system was installed and configured to run autonomously.

Problem Solved - Permanently
Six months on, the transformation has been significant.
The gulls have moved on, the roof remains clean, and no further flooding events have occurred.
MG Group is no longer burdened by repeated cleaning costs or the risk of water damage. The building’s structure and the produce stored inside are now protected, and the cycle of damage and disruption has finally been broken.
